The Thyberg Family

This family embodies love, resiliency, commitment, and joy. It was such an honor to spend a morning filming them in action. Hands down, my favorite thing about this family film is the symbolism of growth and support. As you watch this film you see both parents providing tender loving support to their children as they climb. One child climbs the stairs and the other a rope ladder. Both parents, are looking upon their children with such tenderness. It completely illustrates the different stages of growth the two boys are currently at in their life. But if this was a lifestyle photography session for families, it would not have been able to deliver the incredible words of support that the father spoke to his son. This dad shared words of encouragement and reassurance with compassion in his voice. And, this moment is preserved not just for the parents, but for the children too. This child can look back and see his father looking up at him tenderly on the rope ladder. He can hear the very words his father said. He can replay the sound of his dad’s voice and see the look in his eyes offering comfort and support. Photographs cannot deliver that moment with the same magnitude this family film delivers it.

Another endearing moment to treasure while watching this family film is when both parents are getting their boys dressed to go outside. I remember the routine of layering up the kiddos for the chilly morning air. Putting on shoes, tying the shoes, putting on the coat, zipping the coat, sliding on the mittens, and bargaining with them to wear hats! When you are knee deep in the trenches of parental duties you can’t see the beauty! You are in it, doing the hard work. Showing up every single day and making it happen. Laying down the foundation for these little people. You are tired and can’t wait for a moment to yourself.

But then you blink and your daily parenting duties change. Instead of getting your children dressed, you are yelling upstairs to tell them that they are going to miss the bus if they don’t get a move on. Those little feet will grow and those tiny hands will soon zip their own coats! The rows of tiny shoes will soon be replaced with giant sized sneakers… and giant odors too!

Now this family can sit down and watch this film together. It’s more than looking at family photos. Just like that, the family film will instantly transport them back in time to this day, to these memories. The parents will hear their children’s voices. They will watch this video and see just how much they have grown. They will see how a weekend morning used to be. The children will see how much they’ve grown too and just how much their parents love them.
